Elephant Beach is an activity day, not a beach stop.
Plan Elephant Beach on Havelock without guessing. Compare boat and trail access, choose water activities, check current operation and protect your itinerary.

Short answer: choose Elephant Beach when snorkelling or another organised water activity is the reason for the outing. Keep it as the main commitment for that part of the day. First confirm which access route is operating, the complete return arrangement and the exact activity provider. Do not treat the beach, boat and activity as one guaranteed package.
Elephant Beach is on Swaraj Dweep, still widely called Havelock Island. It is a different decision from Radhanagar. Radhanagar is the easier beach-led outing with road access and sunset value. Elephant Beach adds a boat or forest-trail decision before you even choose an activity.
Access, activity and safety information checked on 17 September 2026 against Andaman and Nicobar Tourism. The official beach page does not currently publish universal opening hours, an entry fee, a boat fare or a daily operating guarantee.
Decide in one minute
| Choose Elephant Beach when | Choose another plan when |
|---|---|
| An organised water activity is one of your Havelock priorities | You mainly want an unhurried beach, road access or sunset |
| You can keep the access and return window flexible | You have a ferry or flight connection later that day |
| The group is comfortable with the confirmed boat or trail route | The current access does not suit a child, older traveller or limited mobility |
| You are willing to check the actual operator and terms | You only have a vague package name and no operating details |
If your group does not want water activities, Elephant Beach is not automatically the best use of a Havelock day. Use the Havelock beaches comparison before adding access effort merely because the beach appears on a standard itinerary.
Boat or forest trail?
The current Tourism Department page describes two approaches: a speedboat from the Swaraj Dweep side and a forest trail from the Shyam Nagar side. It also publishes approximate journey times, but these should not be treated as your day's timetable. Current permission, weather, sea conditions, trail condition and local operation decide which route can actually be used.
| Access choice | What to confirm | Main drawback |
|---|---|---|
| Boat | Departure point, reporting time, return boat, life jackets, passenger list, weather cancellation and what the fare includes | The outing depends on sea conditions and the operating window |
| Forest trail | Whether the route is open, whether a guide or permission is required, starting point, surface, footwear and the return plan | Uneven, wet or slippery ground may make it unsuitable for part of the group |
A statement that one route is cheaper or faster is not useful until both are confirmed for the same date. Ask what happens if the outward route operates but the planned return changes. Keep the hotel contact, return contact and essential documents available offline.
Choose the activity before paying
The official Elephant Beach page currently lists snorkelling, sea walking, parasailing and submersible-scooter activities. That confirms the kinds of activity associated with the beach, not that every one is operating, permitted or suitable on your date.
| Activity | Useful when | Question that matters |
|---|---|---|
| Snorkelling | You want surface-based reef viewing | Where is the entry, what flotation and supervision are provided, and how is water confidence assessed? |
| Sea walking | You want a guided underwater format without choosing scuba training | What are the current health, age, equipment, entry and stop-signal rules? |
| Parasailing | The ride itself matters more than underwater viewing | Who operates it, what current permission applies, and who cancels for conditions? |
| Submersible scooter | You specifically want that guided equipment format | Is it currently permitted and operating at this location for your date? |
Do not buy a bundle because it contains the longest list. One activity with a proper briefing may be a better use of the visit. The Andaman water activities guide explains the differences between snorkelling, scuba, sea walking, viewing boats and kayaking, including health and operator checks.
Check the operator, not only the beach counter
The Tourism Department publishes a location-wise water-sport operator directory. On 17 September 2026, many Swaraj Dweep entries on that directory still displayed permission-expiry dates that had already passed. A name appearing in the directory is therefore a lead for checking, not proof of current permission.
- Ask for the exact legal or registered operator name and the activity being supplied.
- Ask to see current permission for that activity and location.
- Confirm who provides the equipment, briefing and direct supervision.
- Get the total, taxes, transport, photos or videos and cancellation terms in writing.
- Ask who decides whether weather and sea conditions are suitable.
- Do not proceed if the named operator or current permission cannot be established.
This is not a provider ranking. It is the minimum check needed to know who is responsible for the service.
What does the price include?
The official Elephant Beach page does not currently publish a universal entry fee, boat fare or activity price. A single online figure can therefore describe only part of the outing or an old arrangement.
Ask for an itemised total covering:
- outward and return access;
- any official charge included in the quote;
- the exact activity and usable activity time;
- equipment, flotation and supervision;
- taxes and optional photos or videos;
- refund or rescheduling when access or activity operation is cancelled.
Do not publish or rely on a guessed “entry fee” when the real purchase may combine several services. Add the final written total to the Andaman trip-cost worksheet only after the inclusions are clear.
Swimming and water safety
The Tourism Department tells visitors to identify safe swimming or diving areas through current staff and signs, ask a lifeguard about conditions, swim with another person, supervise children and avoid swimming after dark. These checks apply even when an activity counter is operating.
- Read the current warning boards before entering.
- Ask about currents, tides, visibility and marine-creature warnings.
- Stay inside the operating or marked area.
- Do not stand on coral, collect shells or touch marine life.
- Leave the water when instructed, even if another group remains in it.
“The activity is running” is not a universal safety promise. Your health screening, equipment fit, briefing and the day's local decision still matter.
Children and limited mobility
Do not ask only whether children are allowed. Ask about the exact activity's current minimum age, equipment fit, guardian process, boat boarding, transfer from boat to shore and toilet or changing arrangement. A child who meets an age rule may still be uncomfortable with the route or equipment.
For limited mobility, trace the whole journey from hotel to beach and back. A boat may involve steps, movement and a shore transfer. A forest trail may involve roots, mud, uneven ground and no easy exit. If the confirmed route does not work for the traveller, choose a road-accessible Havelock beach without treating that as a lesser day.
The family trip guide covers sleep, food, ferry and packing decisions beyond this outing.
Weather and wetter-month planning
Elephant Beach can be considered in any season, but the plan must bend around current access and sea conditions. In wetter or unsettled periods, keep it on a movable Havelock day and decide only after checking the route and operation. Do not assume that a rainy forecast means the beach is closed, and do not assume that a dry morning guarantees boat or activity operation.
Keep a road-accessible beach or slower island day as the fallback. The month-by-month Andaman guide explains how to plan a worthwhile trip in every season while being honest about rain and disruption.
Can Elephant Beach and Radhanagar fit on one day?
The Tourism Department's suggested itineraries sometimes place Elephant Beach activities and Radhanagar sunset on the same Havelock day. That makes the combination possible as a planning idea, not guaranteed for your date.
Combine them only when the Elephant access and return are confirmed early enough, the group still has energy, and road transport to Radhanagar is arranged without rushing. Otherwise, separate the two. Elephant is the activity-led outing; Radhanagar deserves enough daylight for the beach plus sunset.
Questions answered
Why is Elephant Beach famous?
It is the activity-led beach on Swaraj Dweep. The current official page lists snorkelling, sea walking, parasailing and submersible-scooter activities. Actual operation depends on access, permission and conditions.
How do you reach Elephant Beach?
The Tourism Department currently describes a speedboat approach and a forest trail from the Shyam Nagar side. Confirm which route is open and operating on your date, plus the complete return arrangement, before setting out.
What are the opening hours?
The current official beach page does not publish universal opening hours. Boat and activity windows can also differ from physical access. Check the current reporting, last-return and local closure instructions for your date.
Is there an entry fee?
The current official page does not publish a universal entry fee. Ask for an itemised quote separating access, official charges and optional activities instead of relying on a third-party headline amount.
Can you visit without doing an activity?
Yes, if access is operating and you want the shore itself, but decide whether the boat or trail effort is worthwhile for your group. Radhanagar, Vijaynagar or Kalapathar may be the better beach-led plan.
Can you visit on ferry day?
It is a fragile choice before an island departure. Access, return and weather can change, so use a day without a fixed sailing whenever possible. If you still consider it, work backwards from the ferry reporting time and keep a large margin.
