Short answer: there is no honest standard price for an Andaman trip. Your total is return flights + rooms + ferries + local transport + activities + entry tickets + food + a disruption buffer. Calculate each part for your actual dates, route and group instead of trusting a package headline.

The largest mistake is mixing per-person prices with per-room and per-vehicle prices. Keep them separate first. Add them only after multiplying each one by the correct number of travellers, nights, sectors or days.

CostUsually priced byWhat to record
FlightsPerson, return journeyFinal payable fare for every traveller, including the baggage you need

Start with the trip shape

Do not price hotels before deciding how many nights belong in Sri Vijaya Puram (Port Blair), Swaraj Dweep (Havelock Island) and Shaheed Dweep (Neil Island). Every island change adds passenger tickets and road transfers at both ends. It may also change the room rate available on your dates.

TripOne sensible first budgetCost trade-off
5 days / 4 nightsSri Vijaya Puram + Swaraj DweepFewer room changes and ferry sectors; less time for a third island
6 days / 5 nightsAdd Shaheed Dweep only after all required ferry sectors are confirmedA third island adds tickets and transfers and reduces spare time
7 days / 6 nightsMain three-place circuit with the final night in Sri Vijaya PuramMore room nights, but a safer departure sequence

Use the 5, 6 and 7-day Andaman itinerary to choose the route first. These are planning shapes, not fixed packages or official rules.

The Andaman trip budget formula

Make one row for each item below. Use the final payable quote, not a “starting from” price.

  1. Flights: return fare per traveller × number of travellers.
  2. Rooms: room price per night × rooms × nights, including stated taxes and compulsory meals.
  3. Ferries: fare per passenger × passengers × confirmed sectors.
  4. Local transport: add every airport, jetty and hotel transfer, then sightseeing vehicles or rentals.
  5. Activities: price per participant, plus any separately charged boat, equipment, photos or transfers.
  6. Food: meals not included in your room × people × days.
  7. Entry tickets: current charge × eligible adults and children.
  8. Buffer: money you can use for a changed ferry, extra transfer, meal or night without breaking the trip.

Total trip cost = all eight rows. Per-person cost = total divided by the travellers who are actually sharing the room and vehicle costs. Do not divide a child's separate flight, ferry, ticket or activity charge away; include the applicable live price first.

How to price flights

Keep flights outside any land-only comparison. Search the same travel dates, baggage and change conditions for every option. Record the final return amount for each traveller before moving to the next budget line.

A lower flight price can create a higher trip cost if its timing forces an extra hotel night or makes a same-day ferry connection too risky. Check the Port Blair airport arrival guide before treating a landing-day island transfer as settled.

How to price rooms properly

Compare the exact room category, not only the property name. Ask for the full payable amount for all occupants and nights. Check whether breakfast, another meal, an extra bed, child occupancy, taxes and transfers are included or separate.

A five-night room total should be written as one number before comparing it with another hotel. The Andaman hotel decision guide helps choose the island and area before collecting comparable quotes.

How to budget ferries

Write every sector separately. A route that uses Sri Vijaya Puram, Swaraj Dweep and Shaheed Dweep needs each intended leg confirmed for the actual date. Do not multiply one advertised fare across all sectors or assume that the same class and terms apply.

The Directorate of Shipping Services publishes a passenger-fare order for 2026-27, effective from 1 April 2026, and provides a current voyage and fare enquiry. Use the issued fare for a government voyage. For any ferry, compare the final amount, reporting deadline, baggage rule, jetty and change terms together. See the independent Andaman ferry guide.

How to budget local transport

Add airport and jetty transfers before sightseeing. For a vehicle quote, ask whether it covers the exact route, waiting, parking, return and luggage. For a rental, add fuel and any separate pickup or return arrangement to the quoted rental amount.

A scooter is not automatically cheaper for a couple once weather, luggage, parking and separate transfer needs are counted. A cab is not automatically expensive if several people share one vehicle. Use the Andaman local transport comparison to choose by journey.

How to budget water activities

Do not compare two activity prices until the programme and inclusions match. Ask whether the quote includes the required boat journey, equipment, training, photos or video, transfers, taxes, and rescheduling or refund terms.

First decide which travellers are eligible and genuinely want to participate. Then use the Andaman water-activities guide to compare scuba, snorkelling, sea walking, viewing boats and kayaking without treating price as the only decision.

Current official ticket example

The Andaman Tourism e-Tourist portal listed these Cellular Jail charges when checked on 8 September 2026:

TicketIndian visitorForeign visitor
Cellular Jail entry₹30 per person₹100 per person
Cellular Jail sound-and-light show₹300 adult; ₹150 child aged 5 to 11

The entry ticket and sound-and-light show are separate lines. Recheck the official portal for your date because prices, show operation and child categories can change. Do not use this one attraction as a shortcut for estimating every ticket in the islands.

Food and small daily spending

Start with the meals already included in the room. For the rest, set a per-meal ceiling for each adult and child, multiply it by the uncovered meals, and keep snacks and drinking water as a separate row. This is more honest than copying a universal daily food figure that may not match your diet or restaurant choice.

Use the Andaman food guide to decide which meals need hotel confirmation, a dining-area transfer or a special-diet backup before pricing this row.

What a package price must include to be comparable

Package headlines are not useful until the inclusions are written clearly. Check:

  • arrival and departure dates, and the exact number of nights
  • hotel names, room categories, occupancy and meals
  • every ferry sector, class and passenger
  • private vehicle or shared transport, with all transfers listed
  • entry tickets and paid activities
  • taxes and compulsory charges
  • what happens if weather, a ferry or a flight changes the plan
  • the final amount payable, not only the deposit

Compare that inclusion sheet with your independent eight-row total. The cheaper headline may simply leave out flights, meals, tickets, transfers or activities.

Where to save without making the trip fragile

  • Reduce unnecessary island changes. This cuts ferry and transfer lines together.
  • Choose the room before the hotel extras. Pay for the room category and location you need, not a label you will not use.
  • Price activities per participant. Do not book every activity for every traveller by default.
  • Keep the last night in Sri Vijaya Puram before an early flight. It adds a city night but removes a ferry connection from departure morning.
  • Compare complete transport days. Add transfers, waiting and return arrangements before choosing a rental or vehicle.

Common budget mistakes

  • dividing per-person ferry or flight costs as if they were shared
  • forgetting the road transfer at each end of a ferry sector
  • using a room price before adding the required occupancy and meal terms
  • counting a deposit as the total activity or package price
  • planning to spend every rupee without a disruption reserve
  • comparing a land-only quote with another total that includes flights

Frequently asked questions

How much does a 5-day Andaman trip cost?

Price four room nights, return flights, every confirmed ferry sector, all airport and jetty transfers, chosen activities, uncovered meals, tickets and a buffer. A single national average is less useful than this date-specific total.

How much does a 7-day Andaman trip cost for a couple?

Add six room nights and the couple's shared vehicle costs, then add flights, ferry tickets, activities, food and entry charges for both travellers. Divide only after the shared and per-person lines are complete.

Should flights be included in an Andaman trip budget?

Yes, if you want the cost from home to home. Keep them as a separate line so a land-only hotel and transport quote cannot be mistaken for the full trip total.

Is Andaman expensive?

It can become expensive when flights, several island changes, higher room categories and multiple paid activities are combined. A shorter route, fewer moves and selected activities reduce separate cost lines. The right judgement depends on your dates and priorities.

Can I plan a budget Andaman trip independently?

Yes, if the live flight, room, ferry and transfer quotes fit your ceiling and leave a disruption buffer. Confirm the route before paying non-refundable room or activity amounts.
